Lasers, GPS, and Super Accuracy to the MILLIMETER

Standard GPS RTK systems are horizontally accurate two to three times that of vertically. System tolerances provide this vertical tolerance to be within ½ to ¾ inch (12 to 18mm) for vertical coordinates. Of course, the more GPS satellites you are receiving, the better your vertical accuracy will be, but this is not accurate enough for FINISH GRADING.

For Finish Grading, tolerances of a few millimeters are required. This can be attained by the introduction of a laser into the GPS system which tightens the vertical accuracy. To further ease the collaboration, lasers have been developed specifically for GPS systems, with a 30 foot vertical swath. This 30 foot vertical foot swath allows multiple machines, working anywhere with 1000 linear and 30 vertical feet of the base station, to receive error correction, laser vertical measurements, and GPS satellite coordinates at the same time. This results in the tightest machine control tolerances technically available.
