GPS System Job Management Enhancements

The hardest part of construction is management of personalities, time, resources, and errors. Well GPS can't change the outlook of your employees past letting them play our "VIDEO GAME" all day, but GPS can aid management with the other three.

Company Errors
Errors in earthwork have lead to nearly every contractor in the business redoing a job to satisfy a tolerance. In addition to being costly in terms of time and machine hours, often times, the finishing aggregate is the most expensive and therefore the job becomes grossly unprofitable. GPS Systems help to avoid this by letting management "Inspect" the job routinely throughout the process. Ensuring that what the inspector finds at the end of the job is right at every step along the way.

Other's Errors
GPS Machine Control helps contractors find other's errors. Since GPS enables contractors to have as much information as the surveyors and engineers who generate the plans provide at their fingertips, it is not unusual for them to find, mitigate, and change their bids, based on errors of other mishaps. The city surveyors, engineers, and others who generated the plans are now held liable for costs associated, let them be nervous.

Employee Accountability
Each day a survey of the job site under construction is taken, a map of the amount done can easily be generated. This allows management to analyze the productivity of the individuals doing the work on both micro and macro levels. For instance, by using sick days, management can measure the amount of work completed by any one individual over time on a micro level. On a macro level, whole crews of machines can be compared against each other for accuracy, aggregate moved, and job amount completed. Job Status - Completion Deadlines
If your team moves 1000 cubic yards of material daily, and you have 4 days left to deadline, you had better have less than 4000 yards left to move. If fines for lack of construction completion are large, the stakes are even higher than wages.
4 day x 1000 yard = 4000 yards

In the past this problem has been guesswork at best, but with the advent of the daily report generated by a rover and GPS system, the amount of material moved in any one day can easily be calculated and documented. Armed with this information, companies can lease or rent extra equipment weeks in advance to avoid difficulty down the line.
