GPS System Enhancements for the Billing Department

A client wishes to have rock removed from a quarry outside of town. He has had the rock surveyed, geologists look at it, and inspected it thoroughly. He estimates that there is 10,000 cubic yards of aggregate in the quarry.

Contractor A starts the project and the amount of material moved is in question. Subsequently the contractor is fired.

Contractor B starts the project and suffers the same fate.

Contractor C starts the project and takes a GPS survey of the site daily to estimate equipment, gas, and other needs associated with the project. The foreman then sends them to the head office for archiving.

The client comes to contractor C and accuses him of not having delivered the proper amount of aggregate and declines to pay. The contractor produces engineered GPS documents to substantiate the bill and is paid promptly. The contractor still runs the project to this day, 5 years later!

The moral of the story is simply this, if you know what you have done, and you can prove it, most likely you will get paid for it. The days of free dirt work can come to an end if you simply equip your company with GPS systems.
